Lecture: The cultural heritage of the Jews of Tunisia, a legacy in peril

Sonia Fellous

The first lecture of our Society’s 2018-2019 academic year took place on Tuesday 20 November at the Mairie du 9e arrondissement de Paris.
Before an audience estimated at more than 100 people, Ms Sonia Fellous, researcher at the CNRS (Institut de Recherche et d’Histoire des Textes) and lecturer at INALCO, spoke about the religious heritage of the Jews of Tunisia and presented and commented on photographs of wonderful objects dating both from the period of Roman Carthage and from later periods.
The audience was captivated by this journey through the history of the Jews of Tunisia and warmly thanked the speaker and the Society for this wonderful moment.
Our next lecture will take place on 10 January 2019 and will be devoted to the synagogues of Tunisia, with Colette Bismuth-Jarrassé and Dominique Jarrassé.
